Catching up with the News!

toilet_news_of_the_world.pngWhen Spofforth Parish Council started work to update the toilets at the Long Memorial Hall, they had no idea when a top to toe refurbishment had last been carried out.  Whilst they were in the process of demolition they found a newspaper jamming a flue, which they carefully removed!  The paper was The News of the World, dated ......  January 1947 - apparently the coldest winter on record.

Primary School Sporting Success

Many congratulations to all the members of Class Four who recently took part in and won the School Sports Partnership Indoor Athletics Challenge.  The children enjoyed a morning of sporting activity including long jump, hurdles and speed bouncing in the sports hall at Harrogate High School.  They competed against children from other local Primary schools and came out as overall winners.  Well done!!

Spofforth Crime figures for January/February 2012

Spofforth has recorded six crimes with two detections in the period from 1st January to 10th February 2012.  The Christmas Adventure had a diesel golf buggy stolen in the middle of January and suffered a revisit shortly afterwards, but nothing taken on that occasion.  Someone tried to force entry to a property in Parklands but were unsuccessful and outbuildings on Church Hill broken into with a loss of two cast iron chimney pots and step ladders.  The detections relate to an assault and drugs offence.

We are continuing to experience problems with scrap metal collectors trawling the area and thefts reported in their wake.  If you see such activity please make a note of the vehicle details and give PC Ayres a call on the non-emergency number of 101 or via email on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
