Natural Play Scheme for Children in Spofforth

Spofforth children are to benefit from a £50,000 play-builder grant from the Department of Children, Schools and Family.  The playground will complement the wildlife area off East Park Road which is being  developed on the site, with an orchard of local trees – plums, apples and pears; a nature reserve with bulbs and local flora and fauna, and all around the site seating so that we can enjoy the very best of this area.  The site has been abandoned for so long it will be a joy to be able to walk down to the river, have a picnic or simply just sit and watch the world go by!

Funding is available for the playground, and we have also raised funds to pay for new fencing and safety measures.  However we do need your help to add the finishing touches to the site through village fundraising.

We are going to have bird boxes and bat boxes which can be sponsored by individuals at a cost of £15.00 each;  you can sponsor one of the fruit trees at a cost of £25.00 or you can sponsor a bench in memory of a loved one or just because you can at a cost of £50.00 each.  For further details contact Sarah Giddings, Clerk, Spofforth with Stockeld Parish Council on 01937 590641

Crime Figures for Spofforth

Mark Ayre reports that there were no crimes recorded in Spofforth from November 17 to December 9 2009. Apparently the vast increase in burglaries in the area favour getting in through first floor windows and targeting gold jewellery. With the high price of gold at present, they certainly adjust to the times. As usual, the message is ‘Don’t make it easy for them’.
