E-mail Print PDF

The future is looking bright for Spofforth in Bloom volunteers who have reached the finals of the 2012 Royal Horticultural Society  (RHS) Britain in Bloom UK competition.

Spofforth is just one of 73 finalists chosen from more than 1000 entries after winning the Yorkshire in Bloom Gold Rose Award for the village category in 2011.

The group which has around 45 volunteers will be going for the ultimate national prize this summer with expert judges touring the country in July.  John Stanley, who has been Chairman of Spofforth in Bloom for eight years said "I am absolutely delighted that we have been chosen from the biggest region, Yorkshire, in this competition.  It is a great honour to be selected at national level."  John said this year's competition will see a number of new projects with the emphasis being on "environmental and sustainable planting".  The final winner will be announced in October at an awards ceremony in Peter Port in Guernsey.

A meeting will be held on Tuesday 31st January in the Village Hall Reading room at 7.30pm to start planning tactics.  All are welcome
