toilet_news_of_the_world.pngWhen Spofforth Parish Council started work to update the toilets at the Long Memorial Hall, they had no idea when a top to toe refurbishment had last been carried out.  Whilst they were in the process of demolition they found a newspaper jamming a flue, which they carefully removed!  The paper was The News of the World, dated ......  January 1947 - apparently the coldest winter on record.

Shirley Fawcett, Chairman of the Parish Council said "It seems appropriate that the legacy of a past refurbishment reflected the year that Princess Elizabeth was married, and our renovation is taking place in the year of her Diamond Jubilee"

The new refurbishment will update the toilets and will pave the way for a new kitchen development in the future.

The toilets are due for completion at Easter, and will be officially opened on Sunday 22nd April at 12 noon, when hopefully everyone in the village will be flushed with pride!
