Spofforth Seniors grateful for support from Broadacres Housing Association

E-mail Print PDF

010.jpgThe Spofforth Seniors twice monthly coffee mornings are set to continue throughout 2012 thanks to the generous support of Broadacres Housing Association. Coffee mornings are held on the first Thursday and the third Tuesday of each month and have been running at the village hall in Spofforth since 1999.

Originally run and funded by Age Concern Knaresborough, the aim of the coffee mornings was to provide a social opportunity and point of contact for older residents of the village. In addition Age Concern offered advice and information on age-related issues.

The group became independent in 2009 and has continued to act as a vital community service. However, without funding the group relied upon its members' subscription of just £2.00 each per session which was insufficient to cover the costs over the year.

The future looked uncertain until Broadacres Housing Association stepped in. They had been contacted by community volunteer, Jane Hare, who was aware of the difficulties facing the group.  Their much appreciated donation means that the group is secure for the coming year. In addition to the coffee mornings on the first Thursday and third Tuesday of the month, the group meets once a month at the Castle Inn for lunch.
